When you're designing your schedule, you're once again confronted with priorities. You can't fit everything into a 24 hour day and you can't add hours to your days, either.

One way I quickly determine how to prioritize my time is to distinguish between ongoing work and finite projects. Whenever possible, I want to be spending my best hours of the day working on finite projects.

Note:

A Finite Project is anything that has a clear finish point. Something that you finish and then ship. Example: Writing and publishing a Blog Post.

Ongoing Work is work that keeps going. Example: Customer Support. As long as you have customers, you will have Customer Support work to do.

This may seem simple at a glance, but the underlying principle and implementation of "hand off goals" are a game changer for the longer term view of how much progress you make and how quickly you can reach ambitious goals.

Rules for focusing on Finite Work

1Do at least one Focus90 session per day working on an important, finite task.
2Batch your ongoing work - turn it into sprints of finite work.
3Create a "hand-off" goal for ongoing work you want to get rid of.
4Notion Specific: Use Notion to manage finite projects, use the calendar for ongoing work.
