Remove All Friction from Your Input Devices

The main theme here is: Don't put up with any friction from your input devices.

Continuing on the topic of input device efficiency, here are my 4 tips for working more efficiently with keyboards, mouses, laptops and mobile devices.

Tip #1 — Invest in High Quality Input Devices

You do most of your work on a keyboard and mouse. Therefore, it’s absolutely important that they keyboard and mouse do exactly what you want them to do, when you want them to do it. In other words, we want zero friction in your input devices.

Tip #2 — Use an External Keyboard with Your Laptop

Most laptop keyboards are not very good. The keys are mushy, they’re not ergonomic, and the laptop manufacturer often opts for better design over function when it comes to laptop keyboards. I recommend using a high quality, external keyboard with your laptop.

Tip #3 — Ergonomics vs. Speed

If you tend to have problems with your wrists, it’s better to opt for more ergonomic devices.

Tip #4 — Avoid Typing on Touch Devices

Move as much of your on-screen typing to an external keyboard. Most phones and devices can connect to bluetooth keyboards, so it shouldn’t be a problem.
